About Me

My photo was taken on a peak above Skyline Lake in Washington.

I love climbing! And just about anything else people powered that gets me away from the city: kayaking, hiking, backpacking, canyoneering, mountaineering, mountain biking, road cycling, cliff diving, scuba, snowshoeing, etc. I have been using Topo! with my GPS for about 4 years. One of my many uses is to take pictures and way points of flora while hiking, integrate both into Topo!, and share them with my friends.
Through working at REI Outdoor School. I get to teach GPS, as well as many of the other outdoor pursuits I love.

My Favorite Place

Tahquitz Rock, Humbar Park, Idyllwild, CA

My favorite local climbing area is Tahquitz. Besides being extremely hard to spell, the area is rich with history (first 5.9 in the country, etc.), high quality granite, rout finding challenges, and great multi-pitch trad. climbs. In Southern California it’s probably as close to alpine climbing as you can get without going into the Sierra’s, and therefore great training for the Sierra’s. Another reason I love climbing at Tahquitz is that the approach keeps most people away.
