Genius Loci is a 58 year old male from Highwood, IL who has been exploring with us since May 12, 2008.
About Me
I’m a geocacher (using the same alias on GC.com) which gives me an opportunity to put my love of cartography to practical use. I started with a large mapping company years ago as Cartographic Librarian, but now I work in the Design department.
In addition to other mapping software, I use the TOPO! state series, mostly for longer geocaching trips away from my home turf. I’m running the software on a small tablet based PC with a Bluetooth GPS connected.
On the weekends, I’m out cache hunting, so drop me an note and – let’s go geocaching!
What does Genius Loci mean, anyway?
You may be wondering about the alias I’ve chosen. The ancient Romans realized that certain locations inspire special feelings of awe, mystery, longing, or romance in those who visit them. They attributed those feelings to the presence of a spirit (one that is unique to that certain location) and named such a spirit a “Genius Loci”. For me, this Spirit of Place is at the center of my love of the outdoors, so the alias “Genius Loci” seemed especially appropriate.
