About Me

Webmaster and scout for Connecticut Explorer’s Guide. I have been mapping out every outdoor adventure corner of Connecticut since May of 2006. Hundreds of miles of trail and recreational resource maps have been posted with an extended user’s agreement from NG TOPO!.

I have quite a bit of outdoor adventure experience that began when I was about 20 years old. Since then, I have accumulated over 2000 hours of professional guiding for hiking & backpacking as well as mountain biking. I have backpacking & hiking experience in the following places: Connecticut, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Wyoming, Washington, Montana, Alaska, the Yukon Territory and Banff in Canada, and the Carpathian Mountains in Romania. I have mountain biking experience in the following places: Connecticut, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia, South Carlina, Virginia, and South Dakota. Besides recently becoming a National Geographic NavPro, I have certifications in Wilderness First Responder, Leave No Trace Outdoor Ethics, and Healthcare Provider CPR & AED. I am also an Advanced Ropes Course Facilitator (with thousands of hours of experience) and have previously been certified as a Top Rope Climbing instructor. I also have some experience with whitewater kayaking & rafting, horseback riding, road cycling, XC skiing, downhill skiing, and canoeing. My work life is as a Therapeutic Recreation Counselor for youth with emotional and behavioral disorders and I will soon have a masters degree in therapeutic recreation.

If you have any questions about Connecticut or wilderness travel, feel free to visit or send a message to email@ctxguide.com.

My Favorite Place

Chatfield Hollow State Park

Located in a natural hollow, this park offers miles of rugged hiking trails and super-technical XC mountain biking trails. There is also a very popular rock climbing cliff with routes for everyone from beginners through masters.

The terrain is scenic, but with few vistas.

There are also nice facilities for family-style outings such as picnic shelters and a small swimming lake.

Summer weekends are often very busy along the main road, but usually fairly quiet along the more remote trails.
