About Me
Hello,
My name is Dave and I do most of my playing in California. My job with National Geographic brings me all around the country talking recreation and I’m always interested to find the great local spots. I’m a kayaker, hiker, biker, shortstop and at one a point a left winger on a hockey team. But at the moment I respond to Dad more than anything.
My Favorite Place
Arroyo Seco River Coming out of the Ventana Wilderness
The Arroyo Seco river is located in the Ventana Wilderness/Los Padres National Forest. In the heat of the summer this oasis provides a cool escape. Warning…it’s only for the hardy. To access canyon/river it requires inflatable rafts that can hold backpacks as you swim the deep canyons and long pools. Bring patch kits because if a raft goes down there’s no second route home. Climbing and replelling equipment is recommended for scaling the waterfall. Highlights: cliff jumping, remote camping, crayfish gathering, wildlife viewing and blazing heat with cool water.
