I rode near the small town of Pine on Saturday. We managed to avoid a MTB race that was nearby by parking at Pine Valley Ranch Park. I had never been there before and it’s a real jewel. The North Fork of the South Platte flows through it, great spot to picnic, and there is a nice little lake that had easy fishing access. Ideal for kids. The riding was typical of the area, single track, not really technical(but had a few tricky spots, plenty of ups and downs on relatively smooth trails. This area drains exceptionally well (can be a bit sandy in spots) so is a good alternative during the rainy season. Particularly enjoyed the long grinding uphill going up Buck Gulch Trail. There are so many options in this area, including sections of the Colorado Trail, that it is a can’t miss for all types of riders. While not a high degree of difficulty, serious riders can compensate by adding in distance such as the Green Mountain Trail loop, etc. This area appears on Trails Illustrated maps 135 and 105. Some of it is near/off the edge on both maps. I personally prefer to ride with map 105 Tarryall Mts./Kenosha Pass due to the 1:40,680 scale. Enjoy!
