Leaving Ashland, Oregon, traveling to Grants Pass and then traveling down Hwy 199 to Hwy 101 on the coast is in itself quite a trip. The Smith River parallels 199…the river’s clarity is amazing….. Forest all along the hwy with redwoods as you get to the coast.

Brookings is north on Hwy 101 once you finish Hwy 199.
Brookings is small and pleasant. Beachside accommodations, if you wish. Harris Beach State Park is about a mile or so north of Brookings. You have to visit this beach to believe it. Our grandkids spent about 9, maybe 12 hours in the waves on the beach. Picnic tables are aplenty in the park. Most give you a view of the beach.

ENJOY!
