Throw out your preconceived notions about Connecticut, the Nutmeg State is an adventure playground. Hiking & Backpacking: There are a dozen long-distance hiking trails that are of backpacking quality. The most famous of which is the Appalachian Trail. Mountain Biking & Road cycling: Road cycling is a very popular activity and there are hundreds of miles of routes. Mountan biking in Connecticut takes a little extra skill than in most places. The rocks and roots make for some very technical trail riding. Canoe & Kayaking: I would say this is the most popular form of recreation. Besides the obvious miles and miles of coastal kayaking, there are also some very good whitewater rivers as well as tons of flatwater paddling venues. Rock Climbing & Bouldering: The Metacomet Ridge, which is a cliff-faced series of tall hills, runs north-south from New Haven to the Mass border. It offers some of the most oular climbing in the state, but there are also a few granite outcroppings, such as Chatfield Hollow State Park that offer some A1 climbing. In a few days, once Topo Explorer is fully functional, there will be maps to all of these resources posted for download. In the meantime, you may visit www.ctxguide.com for free maps of these recreation areas. |

It looks as though I will be able to start uploading the hundreds of miles worth of adventure trips shortly after TEX version 1.0.4 (once the route description glitches get fixed). |
