You’ve seen TOPO! Explorer at a brick and mortar retailer – you’ve also seen it available as a download here on topo.com. What’s contained in the retail packs? How is the Deluxe edition different than the standard? We’ll cover these questions in this article.

What’s Contained in the Retail Packs?

Long story short – Maps! Both Explorer and Explorer Deluxe contain 25 map download credits for use on topo.com. The Deluxe edition also contains a complete set of USGS 1:100k scale topos for the entire US.

For convenience both packs do contain a copy of the TOPO! Explorer desktop application, but this is of course is the same application available for free download from topo.com anytime.

Purchasing TOPO! Explorer or Explorer Deluxe from a local brick and mortar retailer helps support local businesses and the economy. Don’t forget that you can always buy additional retail packs to add map credits to your account as well!

How is the Deluxe Edition Different?

First and most important – TOPO! Explorer Deluxe is available exclusively at retailers! You cannot purchase it from the topo.com online map store.

The Deluxe Edition contains 25 map download credits, just like the standard edition, but also contains a nationwide set of USGS 1:100k scale topographic maps on 2 DVDs. These maps are ideal for planning longer trips or simply browsing the country’s terrain.

Deluxe retails for $49.95 – the standard edition costs $24.95.
