What is a SuperQuad?

SuperQuads are the backbone to TOPO! Explorer. They are an online set of detailed maps that can be freely browsed on the TOPO! Explorer website, and can be purchased for use inside the desktop application.

How Big is a SuperQuad?

• SuperQuads use the same boundaries as the USGS 1:24,000 scale topographic maps. Therefore they are 7.5’ of latitude x 7.5’ of longitude in size, which is a minimum of 49 square miles in size. There are roughly 55,000 SuperQuads in the United States.

What Makes a SuperQuad “Super?”

• We’ve dubbed these maps SuperQuads for a couple reasons.
  

  * First, they are not just USGS 1:24,000 scale topographic maps. Each SuperQuad comes with 6 distinct layers including: USGS 1:100,000 scale topographic, 1:24,000 scale topographic, I-Cubed Aerial Imagery, HybridQuad (Aerial and Topographic), and digital elevation data.
  

  * Second, SuperQuads are made from our premium USGS data. Unlike USGS created DRGs (Digital Raster Graphics) which are used by nearly every other online or software topo map product, our set is scanned at high resolution and is updated frequently. In fact most DRGs haven’t been rescanned in over 10 years! Anytime the USGS releases a new map, we scan it and post it to our map databases. Should you own TOPO! or TOPO! Explorer you’ll get this update free of charge!
  

  * Finally, Price! SuperQuads cost just one map credit. One map credit costs $1.00. Considering that a standard paper USGS 1:24,000 scale topo map is now $6.00 we think this is a pretty good deal. Should you want a lot of topos – you still can’t beat the value of our TOPO! State Series or Weekend Explorer products.

How Do I Get SuperQuads?

Easy! Just visit the Map Store . There you can pick and choose the SuperQuads you want and download them. Each SuperQuad download is approximately 4-6MB in size and costs 1 map credit each.

You can get map credits two ways. First, visit your local retailer. There you will find the TOPO! Explorer retail package. This kit contains (25) map credits for $24.95 packaged in a 100% recycled “eco-friendly” box, even the CD holder is made from recycled paper products – it’s very cool. Best part your supporting your local retailer and neighborhood economy.

If you’re not near a local retailer, then you can purchase map credits using our online Map Store. There you will find the same starter kit of 25 map credits for $24.95. Later you can purchase map credit recharges from the online Map Store in 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, or 100 count denominations.

Once I’ve Bought a SuperQuad Can I Use it on Other Computers?

• Yes, you can use SuperQuads on up to 3 different computers. Simply install the TOPO! Explorer application on that machine, login to your user account, navigate to your “My Purchases” tab, and choose to download your SuperQuads. Should you later decommission one of your 3 machines, contact us and we can modify your account.

Can My Friend Use my SuperQuads?

• No, SuperQuads contain encryption that is unique to your account. Should you copy and paste the map files to someone else’s computer TOPO! Explorer will not recognize them.
