Mt. Evans – 14,264 feet For those people chompin’ at the bit, it’s still a little premature to tackle Mt. Evans. As of 5/24, there were still substantial snow fields covering the mountain, making it near impossible to see where the Chicago Lakes trail lead. Echo Lake had a thin sheet of ice covering an eighth of it. Fishermen were testing the waters but I didn’t see anyone land anything. There were droves of cyclists enjoying the sunshine. However, due to high winds, ‘The Mount Evans Scenic Byway’ was closed. The Echo Lake Lodge opened for the season on 5/24. So make sure you stop in and grab a bite after visiting the quaint gift shop. I’d recommend the buffalo chili if you’re lookin’ for a good hearty meal. The cornbread hits the spot too. Sincerely, |
